Music Video Reflection

15-23

What was your original idea, how did you create this idea and why did you think it suited your target audience?

My original idea was to make masks that would intertwine into a heart like a heart locket. I had the idea of the scenes being very simple as I planned to make costumes for my characters and distorting thrifted clothing and wanted the costumes and characters to be the main focus of the music video. Although I had a narrative, I didn't have a very compelling and fun narrative or scene plans. I initially wanted the scenes to just be different angles and track shots of the characters walking until in the end they meet and interlock faces making the shape of the heart. This idea slowly started to develop as I first listened to the song attentively and analyzed the lyrics. The beat and harmonica tunes made me feel like walking. It sounded like footsteps to me. I created this idea by doing a deep dive research into Paul McCartney and the song's lyrics. Iris Caldwell, who was Paul's girlfriend in his early years, was the reason he wrote the song. The song "Love Me Do" is about a plea for love and begging to have someone to love. I wanted to create an odd but compelling narrative showing these odd characters walking to this song with the song giving context to what they are yearning for. I wanted to make the faces odd-looking because I thought about how people with low self-esteem and insecurities and odd faces could feel like they are not worthy of love and are looking for their soulmate. This exploration led me to look into insecurities, which became the source of inspiration for the costumes as well as utilizing the style and story of Paul McCartney and Iris Caldwell. I thought this idea suited my target audience because I was touching upon the themes of insecurities and loneliness, which better suited the older audience as they have probably experienced something similar or felt this way or could relate. I was planning to include themes of adult romance and had weird aesthetics in this music video idea with the masks, which wouldn't suit the target audience for 10-14-year-olds as the faces would have been odd-looking and the narrative wouldn't have been relatable for the younger age demographic.

  1. How did your research help you to change or develop your idea?

My research helped me to gather references and develop my music video idea even further. Researching the lyrics was the first step, which gave me the idea to evoke the lyrics in my music video, showing a plea for love and a sense of desperation/loneliness. I began to contemplate what love looks like and what symbols represent it, leading me to conceptualize a theme around the heart symbol and establish a connection with side profiles and the broken heart pendant. I envisioned two faces within a heart, which spurred me to continue refining this concept.

Digging deeper into Paul McCartney's background, I discovered that the song's lyrics felt deeply personal, prompting me to investigate who Paul wrote the song about. I learned that Iris Caldwell was his ex-girlfriend, a can-can dancer with whom he used to perform alongside John Lennon. Knowing that I wanted to incorporate a fashion element into my music video, I delved into researching can-can dresses and Paul McCartney's signature outfits. Researching the fashion of each character and combining insecurities inspired me to explore ways to manipulate textiles to evoke areas of insecurity and develop unique designs.

For the faces, I delved into research on heart lockets and began creating concept collages to solidify my idea.

Researching about what makes people feel unworthy of love led me to researching insecurities which was a theme that I wanted to push further into my music video as I knew that my age demographic experiences low self esteem due to insecurities and feeling unworthy of love due to their looks. This research allowed me to connect more with my audience and include details in the costumes, and masks that represent insecurities, such as the hunchbacks, or the leg hair tights as many women of the ages 15-23 feel insecure about their leg hair.

What music video styles/conventions/techniques did you plan on using and why?

This music video had a lot of different styles combined such as narrative, homage, conceptual, and slight animation. I planned to use narrative for my music video because the song love me do tells a story and talks about a plea for love. I also used narrative because after doing some research i found out that paul mccartney wrote this song for his girlfriend, Iris Caldwell. My goal was to create these fictional characters inspired by paul McCartney and his girlfriend and tell an unconventional love story featuring unconventional characters. The narrative was planned to support the song's lyrics and history. After the research on paul and iris I created my narrative inspired by them and included many homages. I planned to make a fashion project for this music video for the character's costumes because I wanted the characters look disproportionate, and odd looking like their faces. I planned to make my characters inspired by Paul and iris, for the costumes and because of their story. I found that Iris was a can can dancer and paul met Iris in a show. I decided to include elements of cancan dresses into the costume and use a brown suit with a colorful shirt under to portray pauls style. He was known for wearing a blazer. Apart from the narrative, and costumes paying homage to paul and iris i also planned to include a scene where the character was walking on a crosswalk to pay homage to abbey road as its one of the most iconic album covers of the Beatles. The idea of the distorted faces shaped like a heart when together is a conceptual idea that I came up with for my music video because I wanted to tell a deeper story and to make the music video relatable to my target audience as some people perceive themselves badly and feel insecure. I planed to make the visuals in my music video normal and have the contrast of these abstract characters appear in the video. I went for conceptual because I get so much more freedom to express my style and express themes in different and deeper ways.

I also planned to use many techniques in my music video like cutting to beat. I planed to use this as the song love me do has a lot of strict beats, and it would create a satisfying and easy way to transition from one scene to another or cut.

How did your feedback (from peers/clients/anyone else) affect your music video?

I received positive feedback on my idea and props and the outcome of how the shoots looked like on my first cut but I was told to make the narrative more compelling and complete. Because in the first cut it was just scenes of the two characters walking and getting different shots and the ending was them aligning and a montage of that. I agreed with the feedback and gave myself a similar feedback. I also received a tip from multiple people to include more scenes in different locations to show how the relationship of these 2 characters evolve from the first time they meet. They told me to include a scene where the character hands in flowers, engagement, walking in a different location, eating dinner. I really liked that idea and decided to develop it further to complete my narrative in the music video. I researched match cuts and implemented that in my video when they are eating dinner and changing the scenery to show that they are going out on many dates, and time is passing. I also used match cut to transition from one scene to another. I was also told to edit the filter, color, saturation etc... To have color connotation shift throught the video. As the video progresses and the relationship goes further the colors in the scenes will get brighter and more saturated to connect the color to the mood of the character.

Reflect on your work ethic – how did this affect your music video?

This music video was one of the most time consuming videos because of all the props, and locations I needed as well as my actors not being 100% reliable. The masks took about a week to make because I was also working on the puppets the stage, the costumes, university portfolio and my A level textiles course work exam. Which all together slowed me down because I prioritized the portfolio and my textile work. When finishing the masks and costumes my actors were not available to film until Friday but I forgot to ask my actors to email the parents to leave school but thankfully Ms. Howard took us out and let me film with her supervising. The actors were rushing to finish filming because they were only free to film at 11:00 am so by the time they changed to the costumes I only had 45 minutes left to film. I think I could of planned better but I was also overwhelmed with all my other work which caused me to forget and be disorganised.

Is your final music video fit for purpose?  Will it suit your target audience?  Explain and use SPECIFIC examples.

How technically effective is your music video – you should discuss editing and cinematography here.

Overall, how happy are you with your music video?

Overall I am very happy with this music video, The costumes and masks were worth making. I think this music video reflects my style perfectly and I am really happy with how everything turned out. The costumes, and masks made the music video stand out and have this odd yet appealing aesthetic. I loved the masks because of the contrast between real life settings and these cartoonish characters. It creates this surrealistic story about love and and insecurities. Although people might not know the true meaning of this music video or what some of the details represent, it allows the video to be interpreted in many ways.

10-14

What was your original idea, how did you create this idea and why did you think it suited your target audience?

My original idea for this music video didn't change, I took inspiration from my childhood and what movies, cartoons, and shows I used to watch. One of my favourite movies was "Honey I Shrunk The Kids" which gave me a concept to build from. I chose butterflies as they are very vibrant, and pretty and are associated with flowers and gardens which are also very colorful and pretty. I used my knowledge of psychographic I knew that picking colorfull colors would appeal to the audience of 10-14 year-olds. I was left with an Idea with a very bright, fun, and vibrant color palet for my music video.  I found that the idea of butterfly friends flying on flowers, dancing, and overcoming challenges would be a good video for the ages of 10-14. As in that age, they already have best friends or are starting to make more friends and build close relationships and go through similar events together. In each music video I wanted to portray a love relationship between 2 people, but because 10-14-year-olds aren't mature enough for serious relationships I made the story revolve around the themes of love in friendships. Friendships are very common in that age and I knew it would be relatable to this age demographic. The use of butterflies was a creative and fun touch to the narrative to make it more entertaining for 10-14-year-olds. Highlighting aspects of friendship also suited my target audience as they have probably experienced meeting someone, overcoming challenges, exploring, hanging out, etc...

Dancing was also something that came across my mind with this music video as i researched dance music videos and they keep the audience engaged and will possibly try to recreate it, for example PSY Gamamstyle. The video gained a lot of recognition because of its catchy sound but also its very simple dance. If I did a simple dance and included it many time throught the music video The younger target audience would possibly pick up on the dance moves and enjoy dancing with their friends and the butterflies.

How did your research help you to change or develop your idea?

When I got the brief for the music video i instantly started to generate ideas and think of things to do for my music video. Usually I tend to dig into my past and remember references and my personal experience. I created the general Idea in my mind and used the research to solidify my ideas and fill in the details.Researching helped me understand what themes are appropriate for this age demographic and what elements are focused on to properly appeal to this young age. A lot of my ideas for this music video came from past references like Pipi Longstocking, low-budget green screen videos, movies like "Honey I Shrunk The Kids", etc... However the research helped me to solidify all my references and ideas to get a clearer picture of how I should make the music video. Including fun dances and a comedic storyline was something I added to my idea after researching. Researching all the references also gave me an aesthetic to work with and to try to embody and characterize.

I also received answers from my focus group of the age 10-14 which influenced me to create a narrative between 2 friends as I found that this age demographic is starting to/already have best friends. I asked what do they think new found friendships consists of and their answers gave me the storyline for my music video. They said talking, hanging out, facing challenges, going on adventures etc...

Overall the research help me have a clear idea of what I should include in my music video and how It will look.

  1. What music video styles/conventions/techniques did you plan on using and why?

I planned this music video to have a surrealistic theme including butterflies being friends, hanging out, and experiencing challenges to tell a narrative of friendship in the form of butterflies and include scenes that depict what friendship consists of to indirectly teach how friendships are formed but also to make my music video engaging for my target audience. I planned to include animation in all the shots to make the actors look like they are flying and to sell the visual of the actors being butterflies. I also Planned to make bees look like they were attacking the actors because i felt like there wasn't a lot of interaction with the flower or the environment other than flying around. I also planned to animate my own psychedelic colidescope effect as i couldn't use a video from the internet. I wanted to make a spychdeleic spiral flower to pay homage to the beatles psychedelic era, and also because I felt as though the solo with the harmonica had a bit of a psychedelic sound.

I also wanted planned to include dancing scenes throught my music video to keep the audience engaged and to possibly influence them to copy the dance. I was thinking of going for a similar approach to the gam gam style by SPY as its a very simple dance that younger people can do and its fun. I was also thinking that watching the video with the dance would inspire them to either do the dance with their best friend or come up with a dance with their best friend.

In the dancing scene I planned to add a montage and make fast cuts of different dance scenes to create this uplifting scene and the action of time passing by.

I wanted the the music video includes a lot of symbolism regarding friendship, and highlight things friends do or experience. The bees attacking is a scene that's about protecting your best friend from bad situations, and being there for them. The spiral scene represents the feeling of being overwhelmed and anxious. And finally the scene where they appear in larger forms represents change and to keep exploring and adapting to the change and being along side each other when things change.

Color was a big aspect I focused on while planning and I wanted my music video to be vibrant and full of color. Planned to have my actors wear layers of different colored outfits and patterns to make them look like bright colorful butterflies. I wanted to make the butterflies wear a base of a solid color but also have different colors. Blue representing boy and red/pink representing the girl.

  1. How did your feedback (from peers/clients/anyone else) affect your music video?

The feedback I received from peers was very positive when it came to the idea and storyline. They also were positive when it came to the music video but had some pieces of feedback that helped me towards the final cut. In my first cut people said that the scenes went on for a long time and I needed to make more cuts and add more scenes. This made me speed up the paste of some of the scenes and overall made the music video more dynamic. I was also told the animation of the butterflies flying was a bit bland as the scene didnt change, so I added some close-up shots and made the background move with the butterfly to make it look like the camera was tracking the butterfly. A big important piece of feedback that I received was that i couldn't use photos of flowers or the colonoscope video (spiral) from the internet as its not mine. This changed the color palet of my music video backround in some places and it also made me have to pick my pictures that arent as good quality as the ones I found in the internet and I didn't have many landscape photos of flowers so I had to ask friends who live in countries with gardens with flowers if they could send me photos. Overall the pictures I picked were not in the worst conditions and they all looked good in the music video. A lot of my feedback was given to fix small details but important notheless. Feedback was also received on the costumes as some felt that the costumes in the first cut was not appropriate for 10-14 year olds as the female actor was wearing spandex and a bikini with a long sleeve shirt. I agreed with the costumes not being appropriate which led me to buying leggings with colorful patterns which made the actor look more like a butterfly. I also added similar types of clothes on both actors, (blazer) to make them look more colorful and cohesive. Overall I am glad I received the feedback as it led me to create a great music video.

  1. Reflect on your work ethic  how did this affect your music video?

When coming up with ideas for each music video I think I was too committed to my ideas and really wanted to do each idea even if the planning and th things I would need to do for them would take a long time. I think I set myself up for a lot of work especially for this music video because of all the animation I had to include and I was being too ambitious but I didn’t want to crush my ideas and do something simpler Because I was really invested in this music video. I do think I could have managed my time better and organized myself better with the filming but at the same time I didn’t have very reliable actors. I am grateful for them to help me with my music videos (they were in more than one) I understand their lack of enthusiasm due to it taking time out of their day, and having to wear odd costumes and do things that might be a bit out of their comfort zones. If I had planned better and created a solid plan and confirmed with them I would have been able to film outside of green screen and used a real garden to film. This affected my music video idea slightly because I wanted to have a contrast of close up flowers on the green screen and real life scenes, and butteflies interacting with the garden and the flowers to show that they grew 100 times their size after entering the flower spiral.

Is your final music video fit for purpose?  Will it suit your target audience?  Explain and use SPECIFIC examples How technically effective is your music video you should discuss editing and cinematography here.

I definitely think my music video fits for its purpose of entertaining my target audience with my use of imagery/aesthetics and the style I have incorporated. The cinematography editing such as animating the butterflies movements played a big impact and brought the music video to life. My music video is very effective when trying to portray this low budget vintage green screen movie aesthetic, where the animations are a little bit rough but its still fun to watch and makes sense with the old song. The song love me do also flows well with the themes of the butterflies and I included a reference to their psychedelic sound with the flower spiral scene. The music video overall feels like a fever dream to me, where things aren't completely right but it makes sense. This odd imagery would engage my audience as the scenes are weird but funny. For example the flowers with the faces, or the bees. When it comes to cinematography I think I effectively used different angles and changed the butterfly's size to portray distance, for example in the beginning scenes where the butterflies wave to eachother the over the over-the-shoulder shot shows that one of the butterflies is further away from the other butterfly. I also think the animation depicts butterflies' movements, as they move very fast and fly all over the place in fast and jittery ways. Changing the size constantly helped to make the butterflies look like they were flying forwards, and backward away from the camera rather than just moving side to side. Due to the green screen I couldn’t add to many camera movements because it would mess up the green screen, but when zooming in on the butterflies flying and making the background move, it made the shot look like the camera was tracking their flight. Although it is not the most realistic effect and the technique is not the smoothest, I think I delivered what I expected and what I initially planned for it to look like. My goal was to make a  old low budget green screen music video and I think I effectively did it and it works with the asthetic. I could have animated the bees but I think keeping the been unanimated made the video look more fun and playful. I do think Cinematography was simple overall effective. The editing job was also effective especially syncing the cuts to the beat and having scenes/actions moving with the sound of the song. The music video has a lot of details that people would miss or not think twice about it but overall makes a big difference in the music video. The first scene where the title appears is inspired by 80's sitcoms because of the font and the animation of the text. When the title disappears it flies away like the butterflies. I included many transitions to switch settings and sometimes used transition effects but other times like in Minute 0:29 to 0:32 I made the butterflies look like they flew to another setting. I found this technique to be successful and included it in the scene where they fly around and go to the yellow flower to dance (0:43 to 0:49). I also interpreted the music when the pleassssseeeee is elongated and the butterflies fly and get "Further" away from the camera to the yellow flower.

Another fun detail I added was the flowers with the faces doing different expressions to lead the scene of the butterflies being in a peculiar setting, which is later shown with the shift in color of the flowers appearing darker, more vibrant and psychedelic.

  1. Overall, how happy are you with your music video?

Overall Im extremely pleased with my music video. My vision came to life with this video and it is exactly how I pictured it. The style of the music video looks like an 80's green screen video and embodies that vintage aesthetic with the low-quality animation and green screen. The bright odd costumes and backgrounds bring the music video to life. I am also extremely pleased with all the details and references I managed to include in my music video. In the scene with the spiral, I paid homage to the Beatle's psychedelic era as well as the 60's-80's/ tv screen effect. The butterfly's journey is clear and tells the narrative of friendship how they grow and all the things that occur in friendship. The scene where the butterflies are dancing and the bears appear emulates how some challenges or situations can appear out of nowhere and ruin the fun. When they attack the bees its a visual metaphor for protecting each other from other people or bad situations and to be there for each other. Although the details and significance are not directly explained/portrayed, the more you watch the more you understand what the music video is about instead of just being about butterfly friends who are flying around flowers. After the butterfly passes through the vortex and grows to human size you can see that they don't stop exploring and being friends even in a new environment. They keep dancing and enjoying each other's company.

Im also very pleased with my editing in this music video. It took a lot of time to individually animate each scene but it made it all worth it. Although the green screen is not perfect it gives the music video a charm and a 80s kids' TV program aesthetic. If I had another chance to film I would have filmed scenes outside in a real environment rather than using a green screen. The reason i couldn't do it was because of my scheduling and my actors were not available to film making me have to improvise and green screen the butterflies in human sized environments. Overall it still looks good as is but it would have made a big difference.

5-9

What was your original idea, how did you create this idea and why did you think it suited your target audience?

When brainstorming ideas, I initially considered using the butterfly concept for this music video. However, I ultimately decided against it as it was too complex for the 5-9 age group. Instead, I opted for puppets because I recalled enjoying puppet shows as a child, especially a nursery rhyme video with simple visuals and puppets. I believed that puppets would be highly engaging for the 5-9 demographic. The whimsical movements of puppet mouths make them appear fun and playful, akin to teddy bears or toys. Each music video explores themes of love, with romantic love for ages 15-23, love in friendships for ages 10-14, and love for a teddy bear for ages 5-9. From personal experience, I know that young children often form strong bonds with stuffed animals, hence I aimed to depict a "narrative" illustrating the bond between a teddy bear and a child. The puppets represent real-life characters and create a fantasy world where the teddy bear and human merge into the same material.

How did your research help you change or develop your idea?

Researching puppets and children's preferences helped refine my idea and determine the visual aesthetics to make my music video most engaging for the target audience. Studying Elmo the puppet provided insight into why kids enjoy puppets and the reasons behind its success, inspiring me with its mannerisms and actions. Exploring traditional puppetry for children influenced the layout and background of the stage.

What music video styles/conventions/techniques did you plan on using and why?

How did your feedback (from peers/clients/anyone else) affect your music video?

While most of the feedback from peers was positive, some concerns were raised regarding lipsyncing and the pace of the music video. In response, I incorporated more cuts of the real-life character to add dynamism to the puppet scenes. Although the feeback asked for more scenes of the real character in the second cut I didn't listen to the feedback as I was thinking about my target audience and how they would be more entertained to see the puppets rather than the real life scenes as its more dynamic and fun to watch. I was also told to make the videos more saturated and colorful especially in the real life scenes as it looked a bit grey. I acted upon the feedback and changed the saturation, hue, tone, etc... I went for a warm, and vibrant tone and edited some of the highlights, brightness, and other settings. overall It made the video look better quality and more cinematic.

Reflect on your work ethic – how did this affect your music video?

This video was relatively easy to produce as I only required one actor and handled the rest myself, eliminating the need to depend on others for filming. I maintained organization throughout the process and believe this was my most productive endeavor. I adhered to a realistic schedule, allocating time for making the stage and puppets. Although I occasionally exceeded my planned timeline, I expedited the process and allocated an extra day just in case. I coordinated with Ms. Howard scheduled filming with the student actor and arrived punctually. While directing, I provided a list of instructions to the actor but also improvised to explore new shots. Thanks to thorough preparation, filming concluded within 30 minutes, including additional shots. The making of this music video was the easiest and my work ethic was at its best. Although in the beginning i was struggling to keep my schedule afloat due to having to make masks, costumes, and other things for my music video I rescehueled everything when I was done making the puppets to give myself a realistic timeline of what day i will film the puppets, the real life scene, and edit.

Is your final music video fit for purpose? Will it suit your target audience? Explain and use SPECIFIC examples.

How technically effective is your music video – you should discuss editing and cinematography here.

I believe my music video is highly effective due to its puppetry and thematic elements. The video's theme resonates with children as many of them have teddy bears that they have a bond with and would find this video to be relatable. The puppets actions show comedic characteristics and personality which is an effective way to engage my audience. Vibrant colors make the video appealing to ages 5-9, and simple cinematography prevents overstimulation. Editing is straightforward, aiding comprehension of the storyline. Fun transitions switch between puppet and real-life scenes seamlessly. Notable scenes, such as the teddy bear being caught by the girl, convey their bond effectively. Match cuts emphasize the parallelism between the puppets and the girl, particularly in the hugging scenes. A memorable detail is the puppets bowing as the curtains close, signaling the video's end. The puppet's shots are very simple, there are no close-ups or shifts in the camera position. I did this to keep the illusion of the puppet stage and to contrast between the puppet world and the real scenes. The real scenes have many different types of shots and movements, like close-up shots, long shots, pan down, etc... I wanted to evoke this overwhelming amount of movement in the shots with the teddy bear to show the rush and happiness the bear brings to the child. The use of warm and vibrant colors was used to evoke this cozy and warm feeling that children get from their teddy bears. I included a POV shot of the teddy bear as the child is spinning around with it. This action is associated with happiness and love. The puppet scenes also have a old tv distortion effect which gives a reference to the Beatles era.

Overall, how happy are you with your music video?

I am extremely satisfied with my music video. Creating the puppets allowed for control over their appearance and brought them to life alongside the song. The video resonates well with the target audience, offering simplicity and engagement through puppetry and vibrant colors. Smooth flow, seamless transitions, and match cuts contribute to its success. The storyline depicting the bond between the child and teddy bear is heartwarming and relatable. Incorporating an old movie effect pays homage to the 60s and adds charm. The puppets' distinct personalities enhance engagement for my target audience

Title & Genre(s): Charming Faces - Conceptual and storytelling

Writer’s Name: Viktor Fedorov Anglada

Synopsis – Outline the Elements of Video:

A man with a facial deformity seeks love to "Love Me Do," facing rejection from passersby. Simultaneously, a woman, also with a facial deformity, walks feeling alone but is passionate about her dance. The scenes include different angles and the characters walking to the beat of the song. The climax comes when the man and women walk towards each other, feeling an instant connection. They kiss and intertwine faces revealing that their heads create the shape of a heart. The scene is then filled with a match cut and montage of them in the future, eating dinner in pairs, Spain, Bali, and many other locations all the way to the day the man proposes to the woman. They kiss on the table which then transitions to the present. They walk together in a park, hold hands and the scene ends with them walking away from the camera and a beating heart filling the screen revealing a text saying "Only The Beginning".

• U.S.P - STRATEGY

My strategy in this music video is to create an odd yet compelling narrative that many of my target audience could relate to as it covers topics of self-esteem, love, and insecurities. The use of masks will create an immersive and bizarre visual due to the faces being the shape of 2 halves of hearts and will have interesting textures as well as costumes paying homage to Paul McCartney and Iris Caldwell. I will be making a suit for Paul's character and a can can inspired dress for the female character. The costumes will feature men's and women's insecurities but presented in a fashionable context. For the men's body I will manipulate the posture as it's one of men's insecurities. The woman's look will feature insecurities of posture, leg hair by making leg hair tights, and belly rolls by draping the top. Making these costumes and masks will allow me to express my style and will make my music video stand out. The concept of 2 faces intertwining and creating a heart shape is very surreal but has a deeper message and I believe my audience enjoys more conceptual and odd narratives that relate to them.

• HOW YOU’VE USED THE ASSIGNMENT BRIEF

I've used the assignment brief by creating a music video using the song "Love Me Do". This music video will be targeted towards the age of 15-23. Including themes of Love, self-esteem, and insecurities presented in a realistic way is specifically targeted towards my audience as ages 15-23 have experience these feelings. The eye-catching costumes and masks will engage the audience and allow them to relate to this music video.

• USE OF WORDS / LANGUAGE / TEXT – (TITLES?)

I will Include "Charming Faces" as the title of my music video and will include it at the beginning of the music video.

The end of the music video I will include a type of "The End" but I want to put "Only The Beginning" because the end seems as if the relationship is coming to an end and "Only The Beginning" gives the audience a chance to interpret what happens next is positive and full of love.

• STYLES / CONVENTIONS/TECHNIQUES

Interpreting the music:

As my characters walk, their movements will be synchronized with the music. The camera angles and shots will play an important role in interpreting the music, especially during the second verse, where I plan to create a long tracking shot for the long 'please' in the second verse 'So please, love me do, Whoa, love me do.' This elongated 'please' gives a dragging feeling, and I intend to visually show this with the costumes as I plan to have the male character have these extremely long sleeves to further express the message of despair and being tired of feeling alone. I will also interpret the music through the type of walk the actors will portray. I Envision a slow, cowboy-esque walk, I aim to capture the essence of the song, which incorporates instruments and riffs commonly found in old western tunes, particularly with the use of the harmonica."

Cutting to beat :

Multi-image : In my music video, I will incorporate a split screen to visually represent the two characters experiencing similar issues, alluding to their connection and showcasing the differing perspectives of both individuals. I've employed this technique to suggest that both characters will eventually meet and to provide depth to the concept of the heart charms, with each piece being individual in the split screen. This approach may help viewers understand why the characters' heads have such a peculiar shape. The split-screen technique also allows for innovative compositions, creating a cinematographic scene that adds richness to the visual narrative.

Camera angles : The use of the different camera angles will be meticulously focused in order to convey the emotions of the characters and their journey to find love and their struggles. I'll be using long shots to express the feeling of the character being alone and unwanted due to their looks. I will also use close-up shots to show the insecurities but to show the audience the unconventional parts that I find pretty. Tilted angles will also be used to enhance a disorienting or uneasy feeling in a scene.

Homage :

In this music video, I am paying homage to Paul McCartney and his ex-girlfriend, Iris Caldwell, who was as the muse for the song "Love Me Do." My homage involves creating costumes inspired by Paul's iconic suits and style, as well as Iris Caldwell's can-can dancing dress with stockings and a layered skirt.

The reason for this homage is rooted in the fact that Paul McCartney met Iris Caldwell while she was performing the can-can, a dance form that involves high kicking while holding up the front of a full ruffled skirt.

To further accentuate the homage, I will include a reference to 'Abbey Road' by filming a side shot of the male character walking in a crosswalk, paying tribute to the famous Beatles album cover. The primary focus of the homage will be in the costumes, each mirroring the iconic styles associated with Paul McCartney and Iris Caldwell, as well as their story as I will make the male character spot the female character to stay accurate to how they met.

Surrealist :

The use of masks and costumes allows me to create these odd characters and costumes to tell my narrative in a more complex and deeper way. The faces intertwining into a heart shows the audience that they are the missing piece in each other's lives literally but also metaphorically. The weird surrealistic faces also allow me to characterize the character and make the lyrics relate to the characters' emotions and situations.

In my music video, I'm embracing surrealism through both the costumes and the faces. I'll be creating masks that, when aligned, form the shape of a heart. These faces will show peculiar textures and shapes, purposely staying away from realistic faces. Despite their odd looks, the intention is to convey a deep narrative addressing insecurities and self-image. While the storyline stays somewhat realistic, the surrealist elements, especially in the faces, aim to stimulate a deeper level of interpretation. By using surrealism, I'm inviting the audience to interpret it their own way from the visual narrative rather than explicitly conveying my message.

• MISE-EN-SCENE – INCLUDING OBJECT / COLOUR CONNOTATIONS

In the restaurant scene, I will include a table with a tablecloth, plates, a bottle with a flower, and fake food. I want to add these elements to the scene to make it more realistic and look like a restaurant, indicating that the characters are on a date.

Throughout the music video, the colors will shift to a more vibrant and warm palette to signify happiness. The beginning will start with a desaturated, yellowish-grey hue with a vignette. The closer the characters get to each other, the colors will change. As the characters intertwine, the scene will feel much brighter and vibrant. Using this technique will allow me to create a mood and feeling within the music video.

• EDITING / POST-PRODUCTION

In the post-production phase, careful editing will be undertaken to seamlessly integrate the background characters into the scenes. This involves adjusting lighting, shadows, and perspectives to ensure a cohesive visual presentation. Additionally, post-production efforts will focus on maintaining a consistent color palette, enhancing the enchanting and vibrant atmosphere of the video. Special attention will be given to transitions and effects to create a smooth and polished final product.

CONSUMER PROFILE (TARGET AUDIENCE) WHO THE MUSIC VIDEO APPEALS TO AND HOW…

My music video appeals to the targeted age of 15-23 because based on my research and personal experience this age struggles with insecurities in themselves and in their love life. This age demographic is known to start exploring and feeling left out by seeing all their friend or people around them falling in love and finding someone that makes them happy which can result in low self-esteem and put insecurities out there making them feel undeserving of love. This narrative is exactly what I plan to express in my music video. The weird characters will create a surrealistic and exaggerated expression of this topic.

TITLE & GENRE(S) : Buttlerfly Friends

"Butterfly's Love Friends"

WRITER’S NAME: Viktor Fedorov Anglada

SYNOPSIS – OUTLINE THE ELEMENTS OF video

In a dreamlike and vibrant environment, the music video opens with one butterfly, flying into the scene, cutting to another action shot with the male butterfly flying, which starts the introduction of the 2 characters, as they both fly they go down and land on a bed of flowers. The butterflies are immersed in the garden of flowers and look around to see what's around. The female butterfly waves at the male butterfly and the male butterfly waves back. They meet and fly around, and find a nice flower to dance on.  The harmonica begins to play, and the butterflies seamlessly transition into an easy and catchy dance, their movements synchronized. Suddenly they get attacked by bees and fight them off together and high-five each other. As the butterflies explore the whimsical garden, they encounter a magical flower. Curiosity gets the better of them, and they jump into it. They travel into this psychedelic flower spiral and get sucked in, but this doesn't stop them dancing. After some time they instantly grow to human size. Undeterred, the giant butterfly friends continue their exploration, now dancing among the leaves. The harmonica's playful notes set the backdrop for the butterflies' journey of friendship. They engage in heartwarming activities, helping each other navigate the oversized space, sharing laughter, playing games, and protecting one another. The dance sequences, perfectly in tune with the harmonica melody, reflect the seamless connection between the two characters. As the music video concludes, the butterflies, having experienced the highs and lows of their journey, hug and wave goodbye to the camera.

• U.S.P - STRATEGY

My strategy is to create a surrealistic narrative about friendship. In order to make the video more engaging, I made my characters butterflies as they are bright, and colorful, and hang out around vibrant flowers. Including themes of friendship with the song "Love Me Do" was intentionally done as love can come from friendship and not romantic relationships. The song's lyrics repeatedly talk about love, and its playful tone flows well with the theme and aesthetic of my music video. Making a surrealistic music video with butterfly characters allows me to fully manipulate the characters' actions and settings by using a green screen and animation, giving me a lot of creative freedom to make this music video as engaging and fun as possible with all the special effects I will include. The themes of friendships are specifically targeted towards 10-14-year-olds to teach them about friendships and possibly bond friendships.

• HOW YOU’VE USED THE ASSIGNMENT BRIEF

I've closely followed the assignment brief's key requirements while infusing my creative vision. The brief's focus on creating music videos for specific age groups guided my choice of themes and style. By opting for a whimsical story centered on butterfly friendship, my goal was to make The Beatles' music come alive for kids aged 10-14.

I've also emphasized inclusivity and diversity in line with the assignment brief by featuring both male and female butterfly characters, thus challenging stereotypes and appealing to a wider audience. The themes of friendship and dance, which are central to The Beatles' music, strongly resonate with the specified age group, fostering emotional connections and engagement.

• USE OF WORDS / LANGUAGE / TEXT – (TITLES?)

I Will add "Butterfly Friends as the title at the beginning of the music video, with a colorful bubbly font.

• STYLES / CONVENTIONS/TECHNIQUES

I'll be embracing a surrealistic theme, portraying butterflies as friends navigating challenges together. This approach aims to captivate the audience with an imaginative narrative that indirectly explores the formation of friendships.

Animation: I intend to animate all the shots to depict the actors as flying butterflies. This technique will add visual appeal and immerse the audience in the fantastical world of the narrative.

I'll include scenes where bees appear to attack the actors, creating tension and increasing interaction with the environment. This technique aims to make the storyline dynamic and engaging.

Instead of using pre-existing videos from the internet, I'll create my own psychedelic kaleidoscope effect. This decision will add a unique visual element to the video and pay homage to the psychedelic era of the Beatles.

Throughout the music video, I'll incorporate dancing scenes to keep the audience engaged. I'll choose a simple dance style similar to Gangnam Style by PSY, making it accessible and fun for younger viewers. The aim is to encourage audience participation and enjoyment, inspiring them to dance along with their friends.

• MISE-EN-SCENE – INCLUDING OBJECT / COLOUR CONNOTATIONS

The majority of the music video will be filmed in green screen.

I will include in the background, close up pictures of flowers to create an immersive and vibrant settings for the butterflies to be in.

I will manipulate the color of the backrounds to make them more vibrant to make the music video more visually appealing for the ages 10-14.

When the butterflies get closer to the magical flower that eventually sends them to a spiral and makes them grow to human size I will include pictures of flowers with extremely vibrant and dark colors with a spychelic effect to create a shift in the environment and mood. Allowing the viewers to realise the flowers look different and lead the scene to the flower that ends them bringing to the spiral.

I will be including drawings of bees and animating them to make it look like the bees are attacking the butterflies.

• EDITING / POST-PRODUCTION

I will be applying backgrounds to the green screen for half of the music video. To create the illusion of the actors actually being in the flowers i will have to align their movements with the setting. To make the butterflies fly I will have to add tracking and change the position every 0.3 seconds in order for the flying to be smooth, i will additionally have to change the size of the actors while flying to make the movement realistic. As the character is flying tit will get closer

CONSUMER PROFILE (TARGET AUDIENCE) WHO THE MUSIC VIDEO APPEALS TO AND HOW…

The music Video will appeal to kids of the age 10-14 who enjoy fun, surrealistic/ fantasy narratives. This would especially appeal to kids who have best friends or want to make a best friend. The music video will include themes of friendship and show different stages of friendships and what they consist of. The music video also appeals to kids who enjoy learning new dances as I will be including a fun simple dance that can be done alone or with a friend. The close bond the butterflies will evoke throught the music video might make someone want to recreate the dance.

DEMOGRAPHICS - AGE, GENDER, SOCIO-ECONOMIC STATUS.

10-14 year olds

The music video Is for all Genders, I will be including a male and female character to include both genders as my target audience. It will also allow too clear up the stigma of boys only being able to be friends with girls and vice versa with girls. Influencing my audience to be open with having a best friend of the opposite gender.

All Socio-Economic statuses are targeted for this music video.

NICHE / MASS MARKET

I'm aiming for a mass-market appeal, especially among kids aged 10-14. By featuring both male and female characters as friends, I want to ensure inclusivity and break any gender stereotypes. The themes of friendship and dance are something everyone can relate to, making the video accessible to a wide audience. Through our surrealistic and fantastical narrative, along with vibrant visuals and a simple dance style, I hope to capture the imagination of kids from all walks of life. Regardless of socio-economic status, I want children to feel welcome in the enchanting world of "Butterfly Friends," where friendship and fun know no bounds.

HOW THE ELEMENTS (ABOVE)  APPEAL TO THE TARGET AUDIENCE

Every element is carefully designed to resonate with our target audience of children aged 10-14. By showcasing both male and female characters as friends, we're breaking stereotypes and ensuring our video reflects the diversity of kids' experiences. Friendship and dance are themes that speak to this age group, tapping into their interests and emotions. Through our imaginative storytelling and captivating visuals, im inviting young viewers into a vibrant and fantastical world where anything is possible. Dynamic animations and colorful backgrounds keep their attention engaged throughout the video. My decision to include a simple and fun dance sequence encourages active participation, inviting children to join in with the music video. Ultimately, "Butterfly Friends" aims to be accessible and enjoyable for children from various backgrounds, ensuring that every child can enjoy it.

TITLE & GENRE(S) : "My Lovely Teddy Bear" (Music video)

WRITER’S NAME: Viktor Fedorov Anglada

SYNOPSIS – OUTLINE THE ELEMENTS OF THE MUSIC VIDEO

In the magical world of our "Love Me Do" puppetry tale, the curtains open to reveal a joyful puppet dancing on stage. Soon, a teddy bear puppet joins in, and together, they dance in harmony. Throughout the playful scenes, we see shots of a real child hugging their teddy bear, making a sweet connection between the puppetry and real life. Another puppet, representing a child, enters the stage, and they all engage in playful activities, mirroring the joyful moments of childhood. The puppets form a group and dance together, echoing the theme of love from the song. As the tale concludes, the curtains gently close, leaving behind a heartwarming story of the special bond between a child and their teddy bear, perfectly suited for our 5-9 age audience.

• U.S.P - STRATEGY

My use of puppetry in my music video will be the element that will stand out from many modern music videos for kids. In this time many music videos for kids are made with poor brain-rotting CGI or cartoons. The puppets will engage the kids and will make them enjoy watching the teddy bear puppet interact and sing along with the human puppet. The big expressions and characteristics in the puppets will also add a comedic and positive mood throught the music video. Adding match cuts of the puppet scenes and live action will allow the child to understand the connection of what the puppets represent.

• HOW YOU’VE USED THE ASSIGNMENT BRIEF

I've used the assignment brief as I've proposed a music video using the Beatles song "Love me do" from the "1" album featuring all of the Beatles number 1 hits. I have taken into consideration the age of my target audience and done research to make my music video appropriate and enjoyable for the audience of 5-9-year-olds. The use of puppetry and having a narrative based on the connection of a child and their teddy bear is relatable to my target audience as they most likely have or had a plush toy that they were attached to. Using puppetry is also an engaging and creative way of telling my narrative.

• USE OF WORDS / LANGUAGE / TEXT – (TITLES?)

The only text that will be seen in my music video will be in the beginning with the title of the story and in the ending I will include "The End" to conclude the video and to pay homage to old movies. Ive not used any language or text as 5-6 year olds might not be able to read or they are just starting.

• STYLES / CONVENTIONS/TECHNIQUES

Dance Routines:

In this music video, I will include a simple dance routine inspired by the style often seen in children's music videos, where visuals and dance numbers are straightforward and easy to follow. Drawing inspiration from shows like Barney & Friends, which incorporate dances based on song lyrics or actions, and recalling a childhood song that featured a hand dance, I've decided to create a dance routine that involves only hands.

In the video, both puppets and a child character will engage in the dance, aiming to captivate my target audience, encouraging them to mimic the dance steps. The dance routine will be strategically placed during instrumental breaks in the song, particularly when the harmonica riffs play. This choice not only adds a catchy and enjoyable element to the video but also provides a designated time for the characters and viewers to dance without extending the routine for too long.

This approach is designed to enhance audience engagement, especially with younger viewers who may find joy in replicating the hand dance, reminiscent of childhood songs and shows.

Cross-medium theater:

The music video will incorporate mixed media, combining puppetry and real-life elements. The use of puppets will serve to craft a fictional narrative that enhances the portrayal of the bond between a child and its teddy bear. Seamlessly transitioning between scenes featuring puppets and those with human actors will enable viewers to perceive a meaningful connection between both mediums. Utilizing puppetry holds the potential to resonate strongly with my target audience, fostering a metaphorical narrative between the two characters. A child's relationship with their teddy bear, often perceiving it as alive, can be effectively brought to life through puppetry, allowing for dynamic interactions between the child puppet and the animated teddy bear.

Interpreting the music :

The puppets and actors will dance to the beat of the song and move with the rhythm of the music. The sound of the song is a bit slow so I will make the dance and overall production of the video fit with the speed of the song.

Cutting to beat :

Using this technique will enable smooth transitions between scenes, ensuring that the cuts align with the rhythm of the music. This technique enhances the overall video production, creating a cleaner and more seamless flow. Synchronizing of visual cuts with the music will make a dynamic and engaging music video for my target audience.

Effects:

I will use the special effects provided in the app cap cut. I will use a retro, grainy, vibrant filter in the puppet scenes to pay homage to the camera quality and style of the 60s and 70s. Enhancing the vibrancy in films was commonly used as a stylistic choice, and vibrant colors in films were especially prominent during this time. Before that era, films were primarily filmed in black and white, so the introduction of vibrant colors was enjoyable as many didn't see color in tv and it was fashionable to use vibrant colors. Puppets, being an old style of entertainment, give me a perfect chance to evoke the nostalgia of this period in the puppet scene.

I will also adjust some settings when filming with the actual actor to fit the vibrant aesthetic, and to make the scene look more engaging and pretty.

I will also be including a green screen curtain animation template in the beginning and end scenes to make the puppet stage more realistic and to signify the start and the end of the puppet show, just like in theater.

Camera movements:

While filming the puppet scene there will be no camera movement as I want to just have the stage present with the puppets moving like in kids puppet shows. When filming the actor I will be tracking the actor and the teddy bear. I will also have the camera move from a long shot to a close-up to symbolise the connection the child has with the teddy bear and interpret the lyrics of "love" I will also be spinning around the actor to evoke a euphoric feeling of happiness when the child is with its teddy bear. There will also be scenes where the camera will be stationary like in the puppet scenes to seamlessly transition the puppets with the actor.

Camera angles :

In the puppet scenes, the angles will remain stationary, as I need to keep the puppet stage consistently in frame from the front to maintain the illusion of a puppet show. When filming the real-life actors, I will incorporate over-the-shoulder shots while she is holding the bear up like in the scene in "The Lion King" and close-up shots to evoke the connection and love between the child and the teddy bear. This approach allows the audience to intimately witness the emotions on the actors' faces and creates a sense of a loving atmosphere. I will also use wide shots to emphasize that the two characters are all they need, strengthening their bond. The wide shot will illustrate the deep connection between the two characters.

• MISE-EN-SCENE – INCLUDING OBJECT / COLOUR CONNOTATIONS

The music video will start with theater curtains opening revealing the stage. I will be using a green screen template video of curtains opening and ending the music video with the curtains closing to signify the end of the show/video as ive taken inspiration from theater and puppet shows.

The puppet stage will have a hand-drawn background with clouds and trees. Around the stage, there will be trees and animals to make the stage more immersive and come to life. I will use a cardboard box to make the stage shape and paint and decorate it. I will add fabric and drape them on the corners to make it resemble a stage. Using vibrant and green colors for the stage will appeal to my young target audience according to my research.

I also will make puppets out of material resembling the large teddy bear and the actor in the real-life scenes. Keeping the puppets simple but clear that the actor is supposed to represent the puppet and likewise for the bear.

• EDITING / POST-PRODUCTION

The music video will start with theater curtains opening revealing the stage. I will be using a green screen template video of curtains opening and ending the music video with the curtains closing to signify the end of the show/video as ive taken inspiration from theater and puppet shows.

Syncing the music with the shots and cutting on beat.

I will have to also add the 60/70's grainy retro filter for the puppet scene and adjust the lighting and vibrancy of the live action scene to make the full video follow a cohesive aesthetic when it comes to color and cinematography

I will use transition templates to seamlessly transition from the puppet scene to the live action scene. Using a blurr effect or changing the opacity of the video to move from one scene to another. When transitioning for the first time I will have the actor and bear be in the same position as the puppets. Possibly filming in the auditorium could be a good way to transition the puppet stage to the real stage.

CONSUMER PROFILE (TARGET AUDIENCE) WHO THE VIDEO APPEALS TO AND HOW…

My target audience is 5-9. I have a lot of research supporting that kids of this age will enjoy my video as it includes a narrative of a teddy bear and a child which the target could relate to since in this age most children have teddy bears and have deep connections with them. The use of puppetry is also an engaging visual that kids of this age would find entertaining and fun to look at. The simple hand dance is also an engaging way for the child to maybe try and learn the dance and dance along with the video. The editing and video will be simple as kids this age might not understand complicated concepts so it is important for the video to be straight forward. Using puppets that resemble the actor will be easy for the target to pick up on.

DEMOGRAPHICS - AGE, GENDER, SOCIO-ECONOMIC STATUS.

Male and female. Although the actor will be a girl the teddy bear would be standard which could resemble the teddy bear the target has,

making them feel more included in the video. Teddy bears are for both male and female.

PSYCHOGRAPHICS NICHE / MASS MARKET

The video caters to the niche of 5-9-year-olds, addressing their interests and engagement levels. The incorporation of puppetry taps into their imaginative and playful nature. The overall appeal is geared towards a mass market of children who share a common connection with their teddy bears.

HOW THE ELEMENTS (ABOVE) OF THE MUSIC VIDEO APPEAL TO THE TARGET AUDIENCE

the music video's appeal to 5-9-year-olds is carefully crafted through a combination of interactive dance routines, imaginative storytelling using puppetry and real-life scenes, synchronization of movements with the music, rhythmic editing, visually stimulating effects, varied camera techniques, and a vibrant mise-en-scène. These elements collectively create an entertaining and age-appropriate experience that aligns with the developmental stage, preferences, and energy levels of the target audience. The simplicity, relatable themes, and incorporation of familiar objects, such as teddy bears, contribute to the overall charm and engagement, ensuring that the music video resonates positively with young viewers aged 5 to 9.

Talent Confirmation

Confirmed actors Amy and Alfie for availability to film butterfly scenes.

Asked Katie (Student) If she can show me what colorful clothes she has for the butterfly costume.

DATE:

Feb/5/2023

Katie showed me the costumes, and i picked out which ones i will need and set them aside for the 7th as i have planned to film on that day.

I also asked Ms.Goulet if she could bring the butterfly wings on the 6th so I can have everything ready before in case someone forgets to bring on filming day.

Production day:

Showed actors the costumes and made some small changes, as some things looked better together than others.

I set up the lights, tripod and green screen an hour before shooting so actors wouldn't have to wait.

Followed my storyboard and notes of the extra shots i need.

Took 2 hours to film.

Making the mask:

Took 2 maniquin heads for the base of the mask.

Used tin foil to create the shape of the masks,

making sure the masks align to create a heart like shape, and added different facial features to create a masculine and feminine character.

Wrapped in tape to secure the foil

and started on my first layer of paper mache.

Mask:

Created paper mache paste by blending soaked paper and andheisive.

Started to created a base layer of paper mache for the male face.

While letting it dry i worked on the female face.

Working on starting details for the male face

DATE:

May/10/2023

Fixed male face after it dried the next day, and worked on the female face again, building up the layers and textures.

I added 2 teardrops to the female character because I wanted to include more color and more emphasis on the sad and lonely expressions on the face.

Let both dry

Mask:
Sanded the faces, and got them ready for paint

Added one top coat of white paint for a clean base, making sure i covered everything.

DATE:

May/12/2023

I painted the faces in a greyish light skin tone but i had to change the paint color as i was working in the dark with a warm light and didnt read the color correctly as it turned out to be grey pink  in natural light.

I mixed the paint to an accurate color and made different shades.

Painted both masks in their skin tone, and waited for them to dry

Started to roughly paint the eyelids, lips, and cheeks as i would go over the rough areas with the skin toned paint.

DATE:

May/13/2023

The nexy day I got back on painting the details and used makeup techniques to make the face look more detailed and "realistic".

I highlighted their eyes, added pink blush to the female masks cheeks and, contour to contour certain areas to make them more defined.

As i waited to dry I went to the thrift store to buy a dress  for the female character and a suit for the male character.

The dress was perfect for this project because it already looked similar to a can can dress as it had a lot of ruffles and layers.

I finished painting the details on the masks

I spent the night unbeading the dress as it had a lot of stones and i didn't want them.

DATE:

May/15/2023

I bought some bleach to make the thrifted dress white, but after an hour of bleaching i didn't see any change in the color and realised the dress was starting to disinegrate.
I researched and made the discovery that silk will break apart when bleached and will not bleach.
I went to another thrift store and picket out pieces that had ruffles, tulle, and an 60-70's pattern. When looking through the store i also found a hat which i thought i could use to make antennas for the butterfly video.
I started to add wire and glue the hat to make my antenna hat, I covered the glued areas in fabric paint for a smooth and seamless finish.

DATE:

May/16/2023

I bleached my new thrifted peices today for the womens look, but once again not everything bleached. I should of checked the material label of the pieces i picked out to see if they would bleach.
I did some research online and was told that to bleach synthetic fabrics you need to boil them.
I boiled for 4 hours and saw that one out of 3 pieces did bleach. The rest had a faded color but wasn't white.
I washed and dried them for the next day were i would plan out how i would make it.

I looked for a big cardboard box to make the puppet stage.

I sketched out the shape of the stage opening and cut it out.

Painted the inside of the stage. I painted the bottom green for grass and the walls a light blue with clouds.

Went to diaso to buy false lashes for the female mask, some pompoms for the butterfly hat, felt for the human puppet, a pillow for the bear puppet, and pearls for the female look.

Started to drape the dress and figure out what the sillouhette was going to be like.

I made many drapes as i didn't like my other ideas.

Took a picture of a drape that i liked and started to visualise it in a fashion drawing.

Made minor adjustments and detailed photos so i can redrape the dress in school in order to start making the female costume.

I added the curtains to the puppet stage using hot glue and a red fabric.

Drapped and pined the dress

Made my actor (amy) try on the dress before making changes that could unable the actor to fit in the dress to make sure it does.

Added multiple coats of spray paint to the first layer of my dress to make the dress structural and semi solid.

Waited for it to dry and added a final coat of acrylic varnish to solidify the base of the costume even more.

Made my model try on the dress after drying.

Followed a tutorial for a bear puppet.

Cut out my pillow as it had a similar color and texture to the teddy bear.

Cut the pattern, Pinned pieces together, and sewed.

Added small details to the puppet such as buttoned eyes, ears, and a nose.

Was editing the butterfly video, making adjustments to the animation and focusing on the title and adding effects

I was given the feedback from Ms. Goulet to not use internet images for the background of my green screen. Especially the kholidescope

I looked through my camera roll to see if I could find images or videos of flowers. I replaced the background and adjusted the animation again to align with the movements and scale of the butterflies.

I added buttons to my real teddy bear to make them look similar so my audience can connect the two characters in puppet form and real form.

Started to sew the top.

I had a polka dot dress but i wanted to create a top that would represent some of women insecurities.

Since it was the top i drapped and pinned the dress to fold on itself and creating these saggy drapped ridges to represent belly rolls.

It took me some time to sew and there were areas that i couldn't sew on so i had to use hot glue, I used it to my advantage as it allowed me to extend the fabric to create a more belly roll look.

I also cut the front and the back to make a shorter top.

I also set up and filmed a test shot of the puppets to figure out how i need to angle the puppets, how to light the set, and to get everything ready for Friday as I planned to film on that day.

The reason it was only a test shot is because the human puppet didn't have any clothes.

After school I glued strands of thread on the head and glued on the top and dress on the puppet to give it some clothes.

I also worked on the hairy tights for the mask costume.

I cut a dolls hair

I created a pattern for the tights using tape.

I cut the tape off my legs and laid out the pattern flat to cut it with fabric. I then pinned the mesh fabric and sewed.

The tights turned out to be too small and the fabric didn't stretch so i had to make the end wider in order for the feet to fit.

I took some spray adhesive and glued the hairs on the inside of the tights and spread them out and tried to create a pattern and thickness consistency with the hair.

I repeated this step twice.

At home I dropped and pinned the suit to create this A symmentriacal look.

I manipulated parts of the body using gathering technique on the sleeves and pants to create a wrinkly texture and look to the suit. I also changed the shape in the back and the sides to have some parts sticking out.

I used myself as the model to make sure it fits.

I took close up photos so i could repin at school

DATE:

May/23/2023

I made Alfie (male actor) try on the suit and it didn't fit but I unpinned certain areas that could have impacted the fitting and repinned them in order to fit Alfie.

I sewed the pins to keep the shape and made my actor try it on again to double check it fits.

I painted the eyes on the masks and removed them from the maniquin heads and stretched them out so they would be wearable.

I forgot to ask for permission to leave school with my actors to film so ii improvised and used a similar-looking location in school. I made the actors put on the costumes and went to the location to film

The floor was uneven and there were many rocks.

My actors couldn't see inside the masks and were starting to get really hot in the masks.

I let them take breaks in between filming.

I also encountered another issue with the actors. It was really difficult for them to walk in a straight line or understand the direction I was giving them because they couldn't see.

Due to the time limit, I didn't have to film as much as I wanted too.

I will consider adding eye holes for the actors and making sure to book them out of school to use my intended location. I will also plan to film earlier in the morning as it's not as hot and reduces the risk of overheating.

After school, I filmed my puppet video as everything was set up and ready.

I filmed 4 cuts just in case one of the cuts doesn't look as good as the other.

I played the song while puppeteering to make the puppets lipsyinc the song and so i could make the puppets dance on beat.

I improvised some parts and in every cut I would do something different or watch. my video back and think of what i could do to improve or need to change.

DATE:

May/24/2023

I edited my puppet video and used test shots of the real actor in areas i will want the actor to be in.

Since I didn't have the final shots of the girl with the teddy bear I filled in those parts with test shots so when i record the real video i can quickly replace the test shot with the actual footage.

I researched how to make a kolidescope effect on after effects and it took a long time to accomplish due to me not being very skilled with after effects. I watched a tutorial and made it.

I asked my friends if they can send me photos and videos of flowers to see if i could use some for my green screen backrrops. One of my friends lives in Amsterdam and its known for being very green and full of flowers and asked my friend to film them.

I also went out and saw some flowers and recorded them. (they weren't very pretty and were in dirt and not grass so i had to fix the angle to make them look natural and not planted.

I replaced the old backgrounds with the new ones and once again adjusted the animation.

Kept the video editing simple

changed the filter of the video

Had to reuse some shots in other scenes due to not filming enough.

Will have to reshoot the mask scene.

Planning for the next shoot for the butterfly music video,

Gathered the new costumes. I picked out different colors to further match the butterfly aesthetic and keep the colors blue and pink.

Asked Katie to bring some of the clothes I used in the first cut on Tuesday

DATE:

March/2/2023

Katie forgot to bring costumes so I used this day to prepare the green screen because I plan to film on the 4th with Amy and Alfie.

I also took this time to plan out a better room to film because last time it was too public so I decided to book out the radio room.

DATE:

March/3/2023

I asked Alfie and Amy if they could give me a day and time when we could also film the mask music video but they weren't too sure. They told me they would tell me tomorrow. Alfie is more free than Amy.

DATE:

March/4/2023

Alfie and Amy had to reschedule to film on the 6th.

I also double checked when they would be free to film the mask video, but amy was hesitant and decided to back out filming the mask video because she felt claustrophobic in the mask and commented it was challenging for her when filming the first cut.

DATE:

March/6/2023

I filmed the butterfly music video. I was able to have more time to film because I repaired the room and set up. I got all the shots I needed for my butterfly music video.

In the beginning the mood of my actors was a little bit off and made the scenes look depressing so I let them take a break and let them loosen up and directed them to look happier and make more childlike expressive movements. Overall productive and successful shooting day.

DATE:

March/8/2023

I added all the new shots of the butterfly music video and removed the background on capcut

DATE:

March/9/2023

I took Alfies feeback to add eye holes and nose holes to breathe and see in the masks as well as add padding. I glued padding where the face sits on the mask and tried to add eye/nose holes on the masks but they didn't fully work to make the actors able to see. The holes were too small and I didn't want to make them too big otherwise it would ruin the masks.

DATE:

March/10/2023

I asked Alfie if he could film but he was very hesitant and unsure. I told him that I would need to film indoors and just take 30 min of his time. He said he would be free on the 12th.

I asked my friend YAYA if I could use her to film the indoor scene with Alfie on the 12th, and she confirmed with me. Since I made my actors wear masks It didn't matter too much to have the same actors in every scene.

DATE:

March/12/2023

Before filming I took my props to film the restaurant date scene and made sure the green screen room would be free. I decorated the set and waited for Alfie but he was unable to film that day so I reschedueled for the 13th and asked sternly for alfie to confirm 100% that he is free.

DATE:

March/13/2023

I filmed the restaurant scene with Yaya and Alfie, It took about 30 minutes to film everything I needed but I came up with some problems with the green screen. The Media room with the big green screen was in use so i had to use the green screen in the radio room which means that the green screen footage will only work from the wait up because i didn't set up a green floor. The cut out tool does not work for this scene because it cuts out only the human figures and not the furniture.

DATE:

March/14/2023

I asked Alfie if I could film with him outside of school either after school or during school but he canceled many times making him unreliable to act outside of school. Making me have to be the male character taking alfies place.

I did find an actress to replace Amy (Viktoria) and was able to find a date we could both film outside of school. So we planned to film on the 15th. I asked Ms. Howard if she could spare 1 h of her time after school to help me record the mask scene because I will be acting as the male character.

I did some editing for the butterfly music video and started to cut the videos together and planned to add the animations later

DATE:

March/15/2023

In the morning I double checked with everyone and packed the bags with the masks and props. I made sure the costume and mask fit on the new actress and set to meet after school at the entrance. I brought some bottles of water to make sure we weren't dehydrated. I did also asked my crew to drink water discreetly because it is Ramadan. When walking to my location I passed by a better location so I decided to film there instead of what I planned. It took 1 and a half hours to film myself and the scenes of the characters together. I made sure to film those scenes with Ms. Howard first because I didn't want to waste her time. After filming I filmed Viktoria and it took about an hour. I was happy with the footage I took and decided to call it a day and thanked everyone.

DATE:

March/17/2023

I edited the new footage of the masks very roughly, using the storyboard and draft as a reference, and added the green screen video and the new footage. I was not too happy with the green screen footage because I wanted a variety of scenes and angles in the restaurant scene so I asked Viktoria if we could film one more time. She said she would be free on the 20th

DATE:

March/17/2023

Edited the butterfly music video animation and changed some things on the puppet music video. I tried to sync the music video as much as possible but it's still not perfect but maybe good enough. I tried to slow down the video or speed up to better match. I will make more tweaks to that video soon.

DATE:

March/18/2023

Did some more edditing for the butterfly video and the mask video, I put together the mask video up until the restaurant scene. Synced the camera movements to the song and made the scenes cut on beat. For the butterfly video I did more animation and edited the dancing scene as well as the spiral scene.

DATE:

March/19/2023

I set up the restaurant scene with the props in the media green screen room and placed the green screen fabric on the floor so I could easily film on Friday during lunch and tutor.

DATE:

March/20/2023

Filmed the restaurant scene with viktoria, I asked Mr.Fishleigh to help me film. I got all the shots I needded and plan to use the shots to fill into the music video.

March/21/2023

DATE:

Edited the 15-23 music video. I put together the restaurant scene and used a couple shots that i filmed yesterday but I ended up using most of the old restaurant footage and zoomed in to remove the background so that the green screen would work.

I also edited the butterfly music video. Fixed the animation and changed the colors of the characters by adjusting the saturation, tone, brightness etc... To make them look less grey and to make them fit in with the background.

March/23/2023

DATE:

Changed the colors of the 15-23 music video. I desaturated and darkened the initial scenes and throught the video the closer they got to each other the more color starts to appear. I adjusted all the shots to create this old old timey virbant color with a hue of yellow to make the scene feel warm when the characters are together.

I also decided to edit the color in the puppet music video and added a distorted tv video effect in the puppet scenes to contrast the real life scene and puppet scene more.

March/24/2023

DATE:

Added a title in the end of the 15-23 music video.
